VISITING AND WISHING THE TRADITIONAL NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS OF CAMBODIA, LAOS, AND THAILAND
, 22/04/2024 15:04On the occasion of the traditional New Year celebrations of the Kingdom of Cambodia (Chol Chhnam Thmay), the Lao PDR (Bunpimay), and the Kingdom of Thailand (Songkran), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, Director of the Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies, and President of the Vietnam - Southeast Asia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City, along with a delegation of officials, lecturers, and researchers from the Center, the Association's Executive Committee, and strategic partners interested in the markets of Indochina countries, visited and extended congratulations to the Consuls General of the Lao PDR, the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the Kingdom of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City.
At the headquarters of the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan extended her best wishes to Consul General Phonesy Bounmixay and the diplomatic officials. She expressed confidence that the country and people of Laos would continue to achieve even greater accomplishments in all aspects, constantly enhancing Laos' position in the region and the international arena. In particular, she recognized that Laos would hold the role of rotating Chairman of ASEAN in 2024.
Consul General Phonesy Bounmixay sincerely thanked Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan for her kind words and highly appreciated the close and effective coordination among the Consulate General, the Association, and the Center in various areas of cooperation, including culture, education, and foreign affairs.
At the headquarters of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan expressed her gratitude to the diplomatic officials for their warm welcome and extended New Year's wishes to Consul General Chan Sorykan. She also appreciated the strong diplomatic relationship between the two countries and highly commended the people's diplomacy activities of the Consul General during his tenure. She wished him success in accomplishing his objectives, in line with the main pillars of ASEAN. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan introduced the ASEAN language training programs at the Center and proposed new directions for cooperation to strengthen the partnership between the two sides.
Consul General Chan Sorykan thanked Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan for her good sentiments and highly appreciated the cooperation between the Consulate General, the Center, and the Vietnam-Southeast Asia Friendship Association. He expressed support for training and educational exchange programs in Vietnam and Cambodia, introduced educational scholarships, and expected new directions for development cooperation, particularly in the fields of education, culture, and economics.
At the Headquarters of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan conveyed her congratulations to Consul General Wiraka Mudhitaporn and expressed her appreciation for the Consul General's efforts in enhancing Vietnam's understanding of Thai culture and the ASEAN community. She expressed her hope that the Consulate General would continue collaborating with the Center to implement programs, facilitate exchanges, expand language instruction, and organize language internship programs for students.
Consul General Wiraka Mudhitaporn expressed sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan for her kind sentiments and recognized the strong relationships between the two countries, as well as between the Consulate General, the Center, and the private sector. She pledged to continue supporting and promoting the strengths of all parties involved to foster mutual goodwill, unity, and the advancement of each nation.
During the meetings, representatives of the Center, the Association, businesses, and strategic partners presented symbolic gifts conveying well wishes for the Consul General of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia with hopes for peace and prosperity in the coming year.
Over the years, the Center and the Consulates General of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia have made significant contributions to cultural cooperation, language education, and the implementation of language teaching programs within the ASEAN region. These endeavors not only deepen understanding of each country's culture and history but also provide valuable learning and development opportunities for students.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Hong Xuan, the Director of the Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies, stated, "We are honored and delighted to welcome, collaborate, and work with the Consulate General of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. This partnership not only focuses on language but also allows students and trainees at the center to gain new experiences and knowledge."
The cooperation programs between the Center for Vietnam and Southeast Asian Studies and the Consulate General of various countries have been effectively implemented and are currently ongoing. With the close support of the Consulate General, students and trainees have the opportunity to participate in practical activities, which contribute to their skill and knowledge development.
From May 25th to 30th, 2024, the Center is organizing the Cambodia-Thailand Tour Program, specifically tailored for students, trainees, and individuals interested in exploring ASEAN culture and urban areas this summer.
