, 05/12/2014 10:12Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended the ceremony of signing of memorandum of understanding between the Center for Southeast Asian Studies of Northern Illinois University (NIU) and the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS), University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), VNU-HCMC, at NIU on November 11, 2014.
The signing ceremony had the participation of Prof. Raymond W.Aiden III, NIU Vice President; Prof. Deborah L. Pierce, Vice President’s Assistant; and Prof. Judy Ledgerwood, Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies.
The event became one of the most meaningful activities ever in human resource development carried out by CVSEAS. Collaboration with NIU for the first time through a worthwhile project would help CVSEAS have opportunities to learn management experience and gain in-depth knowledge in scientific fields as well as the way of exploiting soft power, which is a foundation for the country’s advancement and directs it towards humane values.

Vietnam will be able to learn enthusiasm, responsibility and devotion of the NIU staff, spreading the spirit of dedication to scientific studies and community service. Cooperation and exchanges among scientists, researchers and lecturers in universities are essential to mutual understanding and knowledge accumulation, helping to build up a Southeast Asian community with joint prosperity on the basis of respecting each other.
The signing event was also a bridge to further develop the relationship between NIU and other universities in Southeast Asia, aiming to enhance research capacity among higher education institutions. Upon such an occasion, NIU wished to contribute to improving education quality in Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries as well.
The memorandum was also ratified by Prof. Raymond W.Aiden III, Vice President in charge of international cooperation, and Prof. Vo Van Sen, USSH’s President.
Earlier in August, 2014 at USSH, VNU-HCMC, Mr. Phan Hao and Ms. Daniela (NIU) helped CVSEAS to hold a training workshop, which was highly valued by many universities, archive centers and libraries.
