, 14/07/2020 09:07

On July 13th, the seminar “Organizing Online Courses and Job Fairs for Vietnamese Higher Education Institutions,” took  place on HCMUSSH’s District 1 campus.

The seminar, hosted by Doctor Tran Dinh Lam – Director of CVSEAS, is part of the project V2WORK – a collaborated effort that aims to increase graduates’ employability by strengthening the higher education system in Vietnam.

The main guest speaker of the event is Doctor Tran Le Hoa Tranh - Director of Center for Career Orientation and Human Resource Development (Career Center), and a member of the project. In her presentation, Doctor Tranh gave a brief introduction to project V2WORK and went into detail about three beneficial elements that can increase the graduates’ likelihood of finding a job; those being career orientation, online courses and job fairs.

The doctor also talked about designing online classes and discussed the topic with representatives coming from many departments of HCMUSSH, other universities, and OPPO. The audience shared their own experience of teaching via a computer screen; some lecturers compliment the new way of teaching on its economical and flexible characteristics as the lecturer and students can ignore the costs of travelling, the session can take place at any place and any time and so on.

On the other hand, others stated that online class limits the interaction between the lecturer and the students, furthermore, bad Internet connection can likely undermine students’ learning experience.

On a related note, Ms. Ho Cam Nhung - staff member of the Career Center, gave an overview of job fair models and shares her own experience of organizing such fairs. She mentioned  how nowadays, employers’ expectation for graduates is higher by the day. As a result, students need to equip themselves, not only with knowledge, but also soft skills, for example, public speaking skill, interviewing skill, etc.

Overseeing by University of Alicante, the project aims to improve graduates’ employability by renovating the higher education system, modernizing the career orientation centers in Vietnam as well as strengthening the beneficial relation between universities and businesses.
