4TH TRAINING WORKSHOP AND 2ND ROUND TABLE OF ENHANCE PROJECT AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY
, 08/11/2017 14:11From 25-27 October, 2017, the ENHANCE Project’s partners participated in workshops held at the Can Tho University, Can Tho City. The event’s attendees included representatives of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU HCMC (HCMC USSH), namely Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, HCMC USSH’s Vice President and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies. There was also the presence of the ENHANCE’s members: University of Alicante – Spain (Dr. Roberto Escarre, Mrs. Noelia López, and Mrs. Olga Bloshchinska), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava – Slovakia (Dr. Andrej Soltesz, Dr. Andrej Bartok, and Dr. Julius Soltesz), Glasgow Caledonian University (Prof. Jim Woodburn, and Mrs. Rose Cawood), Thai Nguyen University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU Hanoi, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU Ho Chi Minh, Can Tho University, and An Giang University.
In the series of events this time, the 4th training workshop was scheduled on 25 and 26 October, 2017 with the topic “Exploitation and Commercialization: Research Evaluation and Spinoff Creation”, presented by speakers from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. On the first day, they had useful presentations on evaluating studies at the University of Alicante, and other members of the project also talked about research assessment of their own university. On the second day, the speakers shared their experience in building startups, reported their survey on the start-up ecosystem in Europe, and had a presentation on Israel – the start-up nation.

Apart from the training workshop, the ENHANCE Project’s coordination meeting took place among only the project partners, which covered such topics as reporting the establishment of equipment rooms in each member university (Can Tho University in charge), giving instructions on the organization of the project’s training workshops (Glasgow Caledonian University), having discussions about the drafts the Memorandum of Agreement and the White Paper (HCMC USSH), proposing plans to publicize the project (Hue University) and reminding the project’s financial administration (University of Alicante).
On the same day, the member universities, alongside outside guests, took part in the second round table with the topic “Promoting research applications via university spin-offs”. Representatives of the 5 universities took turns to have a brief presentation on spin-offs, followed by the Q&A section with other participants, who wanted to know how researchers can attract businesses’ cooperation or how students can improve their research capacity. Extended discussions helped disseminate the ENHANCE Project and open opportunities for future cooperation.
Generally, the 4th event about the ENHANCE Project was successfully organized in Vietnam, spreading useful knowledge of research assessment and proposing the establishment of spin-offs, an inevitable trend in the development of higher education in years to come.
