ENHANCE FINAL CONFERENCE
, 10/10/2018 16:10The Final Conference of the ENHANCE Project - Strengthening National Research and Innovation Capacity in Vietnam - takes place on September 19th and 20th at University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUSSH-VNU).
The conference attracts many participants including presidents of many universities, experts, researchers from Vietnam and Europe as well as students, lecturers from USSH.
Among European participants are Dr. Manuel Palomar - Rector of the University of Alicante (Spain), Dr. Roberto Escarré - President of the International Project Management Office (UA), Miss Olga Bloshchinska - Project coordinator (UA), and other representatives from Glasgow Caledonian University (Scotland) and Slovak University of Technology in Bratisvala (Slovakia).

During the opening speech, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan expressed her appreciation for the support of European universities during the past 15 years for the development of higher education in Vietnam. Besides, she also claimed that the ENHANCE project is a great opportunity for European delegation to further understand Vietnam higher education for better cooperation in the future.

ENHANCE Network - Connecting R&I Units
Dr. Nguyen Duy Mong Ha, Head of Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance (HCMUSSH) introduced the mission of ENHANCE Project which is to connect HEIs for a more effective R&I management.
Recommendation toward better R&I management and implementation
MA Van Thi Nha Truc, Dean of the Department of British and American Culture and Literature (HCMUSSH), presented some recommendations toward the improvement of R&I management and implementation in HEIs. The recommendations addressed two targets: HEIs and HEIs management unit and S&T management.

Prof. Julius Soltesz, Slovak University of Technology Bratisvala (Slovakia) talked about the evaluation and recognition system in educational environment
Prof. Andrei Bartok, Slovak University of Technology Bratisvala (Slovakia) presented the evaluation method of scientist’s influence based on the H-index. H-index can be understood as the official number of scientific publication that has been cited in other works.
Prof. Dr. Dang Van Minh, Vice President of Thai Nguyen University gave some remarks on the opportunities and challenges of the technology transfer process in which the university is currently engaging.

Demonstration of online learning tool
The ENHANCE online learning tool is completely free in order to support researchers and management departments to coordinate research projects better and more engaging with the private business sector.

Round table: The future of Research and Innovation in Vietnam
The panelists for the round table include Mr. Hoang Van Tuyen - MOST, Mr. Tran Van Lieng - Chairman/CEO of VINACACAO, Mr. David Ngo - Vice president of Technology, Saigon Silicon City
According to Mr. Hoang Van Tuyen, the Ministry of Science and Technology is currently building R&I units in HEIs, fostering freedom in academic learning and autonomy in research as well as calling for fund, improving facility to create the best conditions for researchers. In addition, MOST will also create channels to connect universities and private businesses.
As a businessman, Mr. Tran Van Lieng expects the result of scientific researches will bring about the benefit and practical efficiency for local business. Besides, VINACACAO is also oriented to develop the “ecology” that focuses on scientific research, funding, and commercialization of research.
For Mr. David Ngo, he put the emphasis on patent registration. He proposed a strategy to increase the number of research commercialization. He also voiced other opinions about the chances of applying patent to develop spin-off company to a real startup.
