SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: “JAPAN AND THE MEKONG SUB-REGIONS – HISTORICAL RELATIONSHIP”
, 29/11/2010 17:11On October 29 and 30, 2010, Center of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies – University of Social Sciences and Humanities, participated in a scientific conference: ”Japan and the Mekong sub-regions – historical relationship” funded by the Japan Foundation. Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Shiraishi Masaya – Waseda University, Prof. Ueda Yoshiaki – Deputy director of Vietnam-Japan Economic Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saykhong Saynasine – Vice Rector of National University of Laos, etc.
The conference was held for two days, October 29 and 30, 2010 with the participation of many researchers and scientific experts from universities and research centers in Japan, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. The content of the conference revolved around the issues: the history relationship between Japan and the Mekong sub-regions; the region’s potential for ASEAN and Southeast Asia; the policy of investment and development and cooperation relationship among the Mekong countries and Japan, etc.
The president, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen delivered a speech to highly appreciate the cooperation of foreign professors and the support of the Japan Foundation. As a representative of Consulate General of Japan, Mr Kikuchi made a speech at the conference to highlight the importance of the collaboration among the scientists for the Mekong sub-regions’ sustainable development, self-respect and orientation toward common prosperity.
Through the conference, Prof. Dr. Shiraishi desired that long-term cooperative relations with Japan will help Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries grow, while ensuring a “green Mekong” – a safe and sustainable environment.
