SIGNING CEREMONY WITH INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS, INDIA

On the morning of May 23, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM) and Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA) was held at Dinh Tien Hoang Campus with many  significant agreements and cooperation. This collaborative partnership was proposed and executed by the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi – Consul General of India in HCMC; Prof. Dr. Amarjiva Lochan – Deputy Dean of International Relations, University of Delhi, Delhi, India and President of South and Southeast Asian Association for the Study of Culture & Religion (SSEASR) under the IAHR, affiliated to the UNESCO; Prof. Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi – Senior Secretary General of the Board of Directors, Senior Specialist and Academic Director of the National Center for Arts and Culture Indira Gandhi, under the Ministry of Culture of India. In attendance at the ceremony were also members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngô Thị Phương Lan – Rector,  Dr. Tran Anh Tien – Head of Science Management and External Relations Department; Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanh Phan – Senior Researcher, and Dr. Le Thi Sinh Hien, Head of the Department of Indian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies.

During the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities expressed her appreciation towards the opportunities for this collaboration. Despite many challenges imposed by the global pandemic, the two institutions have made great efforts to reach significant agreements. She affirmed that USSH is always looking for opportunities to cooperate wi​th partners around the world. She  also thanked the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indira Gandhi National Center for Culture and Arts for supporting the development of research on Cham culture as well as other related aspects.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi hoped to maintain the multifaceted cooperation and collaboration with USSH. He also hoped that significant agreements on student exchange programs would be made in order to create favorable conditions for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to experience learning opportunities in India, and likewise, for Indian students to come to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to learn and exchange knowledge.

Concerning content of the MoU, the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts and Culture India assembles a project group to work according to Vietnam's capacity in surveying , preservation, documentation and digitization of manuscripts. Besides, the Center facilitates the establishment of a laboratory to digitize manuscripts as well as providing digitizing equipment. On the part of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University will assume the responsibility of providing infrastructure, administrative support, and local human resources to carry out the project within the allotted time and will provide digital copies of manuscripts to the Center for academic research and digital preservation.
