Thứ ba, 01/04/2014 10:04Dr. Tran Dinh Lam participated in a meeting to welcome General Herbert Carlisle, who is an Air Component Commander for United States Pacific Command. The meeting was held by Rena Bitter, Consul General of the US in HCMC, upon the occasion of the General’s visit to Vietnam.
Present at the meeting were Prof.Dr. Vo Van Sen, President of the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr. Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Academy of Politics and Public Administration Region II; Robert W. Ogburn, Deputy Consul General of the U.S. in HCMC; Nathan P. Lane, an economic official; and Le Vinh Truong from the Southeast Asian Sea Research Foundation, etc.
In his speech at the meeting, General Carlisle highly valued dramatic changes of the Vietnam’s economy, which used to be a subsidized one with a lot of difficulties, and has now achieved rapid growth, bringing peace and prosperity for the Southeast Asian region. A country’s strength is reflected in its economic potential. He hoped that Vietnam will continue to have more significant changes to create prosperity for the whole society and there will be exchanges between air forces of the two countries in the future.
Also at the meeting, Prof.Dr. Vo Van Sen had discussion with the Consul General about the importance of human resources training in Vietnam in collaboration with US universities. Many authorities have applied what they learnt to their job of governing the country, which has proved effective in building up and developing the country towards global integration. He also expressed his viewpoint on disputes over the East Sea. He thought that the involved parties should respect each other and the issue needs to be solved on the basis of international law. For peace, stability, and co-development in the region, it is necessary to establish cooperation among the Southeast Asian nations in coping with disputes.
Consul General Rena Bitter wished to contribute her energies to foster the Vietnam – US relations. She added that she will be pleased to play a role as a bridge between Vietnamese and the US universities so that they can have cooperation and share experience in higher education as well as in human resources training in Vietnam to help it keep up with the trend towards globalization.
