PROJECT TOURIST - WORKING WITH VIETNAM NATIONAL ADMINISTRATION OF TOURISM IN HANOI

On December 4th, 2019, within the framework of project TOURIST, the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Tourism was held in Hanoi. Representatives from FH Joanneum University (Austria), Ms. Claudia Linditsch, and Prof. Harald A. Friedl had a working visit with Dr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director General of Tourism Administration. The meeting was attended by Mr. Tran Phu Cuong - Director General of International Cooperation, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Director of the Institute for Tourism Development, and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

On behalf of the delegates, Ms. Claudia Linditsch - the lead coordinator of the project – briefed the development of project TOURIST, its results, and the development plans for the near future. TOURIST is funded by the Erasmus+ Program (European Union) and has participants from 10 universities and 02 tourist promotion units. The aim of the project is to develop and propose sustainable tourism and innovating Financial Management Strategies for Local Tourism in Thailand and Vietnam. 

In the meeting, Dr. Ha Van Sieu expressed his appreciation to the Austrian delegates for the practical contribution of the project to Vietnam’s Tourism and its workforce. Based on the initial success of the project, Dr. Ha Van Sieu suggested that FH Joanneum University continue its support for the Sustainable Tourism Development programs. He also stressed the importance of international connection and vocational training in the development of tourism towards sustainability.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Sieu expressed his commitment to promoting project TOURIST in order to spread the positive impacts as well as to build a bridge between the University members and several units of the General Department. He eagerly looked forward to further cooperation with the EU in the upcoming time.
