V2WORK – ''YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD TRY THEIR HAND AT START-UP''

, 19/09/2019 14:09

“Young people should try their hand at start-up”, shared Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies and guest speaker at the British Council sponsored discussion on start-ups between entrepreneurs and students of the Faculty of Education, USSH-VNUHCM, held on the 15th of September, 2019.

The session welcomed as keynote speaker Mr. Tran Van Lieng, CEO/Chairman of Vietnam VINACACAO Joint Stock Company. Engaging in discourse with the students, Mr. Lieng highlighted the many opportunities and challenges facing the Vietnamese youth when starting up a business.

Mr. Lieng believed Vietnam to be a fertile land for new ideas and stated: With just an idea, you’re already one step ahead. With that being said, an idea alone does not a business make. The Vietnamese youth, he opined, had many ideas but lacked the experience to realize them––a flaw in the Vietnamese entrepreneurial spirit. His advice to would-be entrepreneurs was to accumulate experience through internship after graduation to enable the actualization of their projects.

Entrepreneurs and students discussing in a "Start-up Ring"

In Mr. Lieng’s opinion, start-up could be a beneficial venture for the Vietnamese youth in terms of expanding one’s knowledge and instilling in oneself a sense of achievement and self-discovery. When starting up a business, a project holds more sentimental value. A project is the brainchild of the entrepreneur, one born from dedication and passion. The entrepreneur has a duty to protect and realize the fruit of their intellectual labour. A long process this may be, but it serves as an incentive for self-growth.

The discussion opened and concluded in line with the spirit of project V2WORK(*): improving the employability & entrepreneurship skills of HEIs graduates. The session helped to inform the students of the Faculty of Education of new and correct view of start-up.
