ELEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE: IMPACTS AND RESPONSES

Within the framework of REACT(*) project, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam has participated the Eleventh International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts and Response at Pryzbyla Center, Catholic University of America (CUA), Washington D.C, US from April 16 to 17. This conference is an annual event organized by Common Ground Research Networks, US.

 

The conference has brought togerther more than 92 scientists and scholars working at various universities and organizations from 21 countries. A wide range of studies in many fields presented at the conference introduces valuable evidence which also implies new policies in response to increased climate change.

In the opening speech, Prof. John Garvey, President of CUA has briefly introduced the importance of this conference as well as the study on climate change and the role of scientists and practitioners working on this field. Through his speech, he calls for joint actions to save ecological environment for future generation. In addition, he calls governments to take actions and involve more in regions under the impacts of climate change.

- Technical, Political and Social Responses

During two days, the conference organizes various sessions. The Plenary Session is organized at the beginning. Then, participants meet and discuss with the plenary speaker in Garden Conversation. After the Plenary Session, participants meet and interact with other participants with the same study or interest in the Talking Circles before they attend Parallel Sessions.

At the conference, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam has presented his study on “Economic Reform and environmental policies in response to climate change in Vietnam”. In his presentation, he addresses the importance of economic promotion aming at sustainable development and adaptation to climate change in Vietnam. Thus, he calls for close cooperation among government, enterprises and people to build a practical model of economic development along with growth quality in Vietnam.

In this occasion, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam also introduces REACT project and its international conference within the framework which will be organized in September.

Within 2 days, the conference has successfully created an interdisciplinary  forum for the world’s leading thinkers and practicioners in this field to discuss evidence of climate change, its causes, its ecosystemic impacts and its human impacts. Through this conference, participants also suggests technological, policy, strategic, and social responses to climate change.
