102TH TAIWAN DOUBLE TENTH NATIONAL DAY CEREMONY
, 25/10/2013 09:10Dr. Tran Dinh Lam was honored to attend the ceremony of Taiwan’s Double Tenth National Day, which was organized by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in HCMC on October 10, 2013.
Also present at the ceremony were Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Deputy President of the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities; several other universities, institutes and enterprises of Taiwan and Vietnam. The two countries not only are close together in terms of geographical location and culture, but also have established a long relationship. Since Taiwan and Vietnam set up their own representative office in the other country 20 years ago, Taiwan’s investment in Vietnam has always stayed at the top. Given the global economic depression during the first 6 months of 2013, Taiwan still has 24 projects invested in Vietnam. The total investment of Taiwan in Vietnam has reached over US$7.460 billion. In addition to their business and investment in Vietnam and considering the country as their second fatherland, Taiwanese enterprises often take part in social work and support charities.
In his speech at the ceremony, Tran Bach Tu, Chairman of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in HCMC, said that the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Taiwan are being promoted in many aspects such as economics, trading, especially education. During the past years, Taiwan also granted Vietnamese students a number of valuable scholarships. Tu hopes that there will be more exchange programs among the two countries’ universities so that students can have opportunities to gain more mutual understanding.
Additionally, Tu also wishes to establish closer relationships with authorities and enterprises in HCMC as well as in other provinces.
