SEMINAR WITH STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF POLITICS, CHONNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY IN SOUTH KOREA
, 18/05/2015 00:05At the invitation of Prof. Kyung Taek OH, Head of the International Cooperation Office, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam gave a seminar to 30 students of the Department of Politics at the Chonnam National University (CNU) on April 28, 2015.
Attendees included Prof. Kim Jae Kwan and Prof. Kyung Taek Oh. The talk focuses on the economic reform process in Vietnam, the issue of human resource training, the development target and the government’s role in creating conditions for economic integration. The question raised during the seminar was what should be done to benefit the whole society from development.
The participating students asked several questions and had discussions about the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the sustainable development of developing countries, which need to have qualified workforce in order to make good use of capital and avoid lacking the true essence of development. When receiving capital for infrastructure construction from AIIB, the developing countries have to synchronize it with training human resources who would be responsible for the country and society’s benefits. Otherwise, AIIB would cause a lot of negative effects and become an exporting market for China. Then, the poor countries’ resources would be used up. They would have no true development, making their future generations suffer from such consequences.
CNU is one of the prestigious universities in South Korea and it pays a lot of attention to attracting international students. The university now has over 1,000 international students from 75 countries, including 700 from China, 100 from Vietnam, 27 from Mongolia and 17 from Japan. Prof. Kyung Taek Oh informed that the Korea’s government is going to offer full scholarships to many Vietnamese students (http://cvseas.edu.vn/SCHOLARSHIP-OPPORTUNITY-TO-STUDY-IN-SOUTH-KOREA-AT-CHONNAM-NATIONAL-UNIVERSITY_C129_D2840.htm).
Dr. Jee Byung Moon, CNU’s President, said that the university would concentrate on training human resources for the Southeast Asian countries. Its motto is to foster creativity, innovative research and human resources to contribute to the development of South Korea with the aim of reaching the international level.
Upon the occasion, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam presented the CNU Library’s manager with two books published by the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, i.e. “The Economic, Cultural and Social Life of Bahnar People Sustainable Development” and “Small and Medium-sized Enterprises: The Way to Success”.
