Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended the anniversary of the 53rd Independence Day and the 23rd Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait, which was held in HCMC on January 25.
Guests participating in the anniversary included Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee; Assoc.Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Director of Vietnam National University – HCMC; Prof.Dr. Tran Linh Phuoc, President of the HCMC University of Natural Sciences; heads of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, HCMC USSH, together with representatives of friendship associations in the city.

On behalf of HCMC authorities, Le Thanh Liem extended his congratulations to Consul General Omar Al Qenaei and the Kuwaiti community living in HCMC. Since the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1976, it has been increasingly flourishing in many sectors.
HCMC always considers the State of Kuwait an important partner in the Middle East. Le Thanh Liem hopes to welcome more and more Kuwaiti investors and tourists to the city, committing himself to being always willing to support Kuwaiti businesses. The Vice Chairman highly valued the Consul General’s idea of calling for Vietnamese businesses and investors to explore the potentials of the Kuwait’s market.
Consul General of the State of Kuwait in HCMC, Al-Qenaei, said that the bilateral trade relations have been thriving with the trade exchange value reaching about 740 million USD in 2013. He expected that this figure will exceed 1 billion USD in the years to come, especially when the Nghi Son Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, a shining example of Kuwait’s investment in Vietnam, starts its operation in 2017.
During the past years, the Consulate General of Kuwait in HCMC has taken a very active role in handing non-refundable grants of the Kuwait’s Government to some provinces in the Mekong Delta, helping to purchase medical equipment for or renovate local clinics and social centers. Besides, staff members of the Consulate General of Kuwait also assisted the HCMC USSH in establishing the Arabian Studies discipline by providing reading materials and computers to the university.
