66TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE DAY OF INDIA

The anniversary witnessed the presence of Deepak Mittal, Consul General of India in HCMC; Huynh Thanh Lap, Chairman of the Vietnam - India Friendship Association in HCMC and representatives of departments, offices as well as of universities and Indian businesses in HCMC.
In his speech at the anniversary, Huynh Thanh Lap said that Vietnam and India have a good traditional relationship which results from common features in history, culture, art and religion, etc. and was built up by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. People of the two countries both experienced a fierce struggle for their independence and freedom. Since the day they won their independence, the India people, with their hard work and continuous creativity, has made the country developed, prosperous, modern and become one of the most dynamic countries with much influence in the region and worldwide.

Huynh Thanh Lap, Chairman of the Vietnam - India Friendship Association in HCMC,
delivered his speech at the anniversary.
According to Lap, the Vietnam – India relations have grown closer in all fields such as politics, foreign affairs, economic cooperation, trade, culture, science, education and national offence, as well as at all levels, including bilateral, regional and global levels. In the first 6 months, bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$ 2.592 billion, increasing by 40.3% compared to the same period in 2012. Now India has been carrying out 86 projects in Vietnam with the total investment of US$ 936 million in oil, gas, ores, sugar production from sugarcanes, information technology and agricultural produce.
Exchanges between the two countries have also been promoted in terms of education. The publication and release of the first Hindi – Vietnamese dictionary based on the agreement between the Consulate General of India in HCMC and the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities last May marked a turning point, for it not only helps the two countries’ students get to know more about each other but also contributes to foster the cultural, trade and economic relationship between Vietnam and India.
Deepak Mittal, Consul General of India in HCMC, hopes that the two countries will continue to enjoy the friendly relationship to develop more prosperously together in the future.
