The talk focused on economic reforms in Vietnam, the integration of regional countries and solutions to a peaceful and prosperous Southeast Asia. Thai experts shared practical experience of their country over the last two decades, when former Prime Minister CHATICHAI Choohavan proposed the target of “transforming battlefields into markets”.
When the ASEAN Community enters a new period of 2015, it is necessary to plan long-term and stable policies. Vietnamese and Thai businesses need to establish more cooperation in order to create attraction for the Southeast Asian countries. Privatization of state-owned enterprises was also brought to discussion with the aim at proposing effective measures to reduce a drain on the state’s property.
Another issue drawing many experts’ concern is what should be done to bridge the gap between rich and poor in each country. More emphasis is put on the role of universities in training human resources that meet the market’s needs. The experts highly value the way Vietnam enhances its human resources by granting scholarships to lecturers and researchers for their study and improvement abroad.
