, 14/03/2013 14:03Dr. Tran Dinh Lam just had a talk with a group of 3 lecturers (Prof. Takao Yao, Yuka Nishizaki and Asami Ogura) and 24 students from Hiroshima University, Japan in the frame of “Study Tour Abroad for Realization and Transformation”program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – HCMC on March 11, 2013.
Dr. Tran Dinh Lam delivered a presentation on major features of Vietnam’s economy, from the period of a subsidized economy to the economic reform (1986 – 1990). In addition, Dr. Lam also mentioned the effects of the government’s management policy on the Vietnam’s economy.
The students from Hiroshima University said that this program is very useful since it helps them get more understanding of the Vietnam’s economy. According to these students, Vietnam is experiencing the same periods as Japan did after World War II. All of them agreed that developing education plays an important role in promoting economic growth. Besides improving education quality, there are still many problems to be solved in Vietnam such as infrastructure and bureaucracy in state-owned institutions.

These Japanese students are also concerned about whether Japan should join TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) or not, for they are afraid that the joining will have negative impacts on Japanese farmers (opinion of a student named Tomimura Yoshiaki). Additionally, they hope that “the Vietnam’s economy will flourish and look forward to visiting Vietnam again to see the growth”, said a student named Morimoto Maho.
