Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a business trip to Hanoi from 13 to 22 August, 2014 to participate in a consulting program within the framework of “Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program” funded by the European Union.
After 8 days of consulting, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, together with Prof. Martin Fontanari (European University for Economics and Management) and Dr. Ha Thanh Hai (Head of domestic experts on the project), had a report to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and leaders of the Institute for Tourism Development Research (ITDR) at the VNAT’s office on August 21.

The meeting had the presence of Kai Partale, an expert on European tourism; Dr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General of the VNAT, Director of the ITDR; Dr. Hoang Thi Diep, Deputy Director General of the VNAT; Vu Quoc Tri, Program Manager; organizers from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism together with the ITDR’s leaders, etc.
Discussions focused on restructuring the ITDR, enhancing capacity of building projects, developing tourism and research network, improving human resources and the state budget as well as how to enlarge revenue.
Accordingly, Vietnam’s tourism potential can only be explored when well-educated human resources are available. The ITDR needs to adapt itself to new development, aiming at the integration with other countries in the region and playing an essential role in the links among Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
