ATTENDING SEMINAR ON POSITIONING VIETNAMESE TOURISM TRADEMARK

, 27/08/2013 09:08

Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, together with Prof. Yuka Kawano from Josai International University, attended the seminar on “Positioning Vietnamese Tourism Trademark” held by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism on August 22, 2013.

Present at the seminar were Janez Sirse, Team Leader of the Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program Funded by the EU (ESRT Program), Kai Parta and Florian Sengstschmit, specialists of the ESRT Program. The seminar’s chairmen include Nguyen Van Tuan, Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Trung Luong, Deputy Director of the Institute for Tourism Research and Development; and Dr. Ha Van Sieu, Director of the Institute.

In his speech at the seminar, La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, talked about the experience of HCMC in building up tourist attractions’ trademark. Nguyen The Vinh, Deputy General Director of Saigon Tourist Company, shared the experiences in establishing the travel trademark of his company. Other reports also presented the process of affirming their trademarks to be recognized.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism calls for the cooperation of organizations, authorities, and all citizen classes, etc. which will form a basis for founding a Vietnamese image into a trademark to attract tourists. While other countries in the region are having more advantages and attracting a vast number of tourists such as Thailand (22 million), Malaysia (25 million), Singapore (14.4 million), more efforts need channeling to the Vietnamese tourism sector.

Sharing her ideas at the seminar, Prof. Yuka Kawano said that she was greatly impressed by the breathtaking natural beauty in Sapa when she came to Vietnam to do her research for the first time. According to this professor, however, not many Japanese people have known about the city, which can be resulted from the lack of advertising. Additionally, she also hopes that there will be a non-stop flight from Japan to Hanoi for tourists’ convenience. At the present a stopover at an intermediate point of a third country still remains. Besides, to promote the Vietnamese tourism sector, tour quality has to meet customers’ demands as advertised. It will be very repugnant if the true quality does not match the content of advertisements, for that will lose the trust of customers and make tourists less interested in visiting Vietnam. This professor also discussed the consistency in positioning strategies for Vietnamese tourism trademarks.

Through the discussion during break time, Janes Sirse hopes that the project will contribute to improve human resources training for Vietnam as a sharing of the European Community for the socio-economic development in Vietnam.
