The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies has attended a seminar “Update the economic development of Vietnam” presented by the research group of World Bank in Vietnam at the Economics University HCMC on December 12.
The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies has attended a seminar “Update the economic development of Vietnam” presented by the research group of World Bank in Vietnam at the Economics University HCMC on December 12.
The main speakers are Mr. Sandeep Mahajan, lead economist of WB in Vietnam, and Mr. Dinh Tuan Viet, professional economist.
Mr. Mahajan provided the overview of Vietnam economy in 2013 including achievements and difficulties to tackle. Particularly, trade facilitation, competitiveness and economic growth, corruption and inequality in Vietnam are the most important issues

Despite the risks to global economy such as prolonged fiscal deadlock in the US, corruption and economic growth in Vietnam, public debt crisis in Europe, macro economy of Vietnam has improved gradually.
Vietnamese firms that paid bribes have done worse. The government has kept a big share among the banks. It is urgent to have administrative reforms and greater transparency.
World Bank calls for attention in the three pillars of trade facilitation and competitiveness, it is required to transport infrastructure and logistics and process regulatory procedures for trade as well as supply chain organization.
Lecturers, students from different universities and research centers have several discussions with each other.
