ENJOYING JAZZ NIGHT BY JAPANESE BAND AND VIETNAMESE SINGER TUNG DUONG

Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended the performance by Asian artists from the Unit Asia Band and singer Tung Duong as an art program on the occasion to mark 40 years of Vietnam – Japan friendship and cooperation at Ben Thanh Theater (HCMC) on July 14, 2013.

Also present at the concert were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vo Van Sen – President of HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Consuls General of several countries, representatives of a number of universities and Japanese businesses in HCMC, etc.

Unit Asia is a jazz band with 5 excellent musicians coming from 3 Asian countries: Japan, Thailand and Malaysia. Specifically, Isao Miyoshi is considered as one of the leading jazz guitarists in Japan. Koh Mr. Saxman is thought to be a distinguished representative for Thai music industry. Tay Cher Siang has been a lecturer at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur. Shigeki Ippon (Japan) is capable of playing with contrabass and electronic bass and combing lots of elements from classic jazz to pop.  Tomo’o Tsuruya is a Japanese musician but now living in Vancouver (Canada) and he has performed with many famous bands in the world.

HCMC audience had a chance to enjoy very sweet and impressive jazz melodies through harmonious collaboration between the Unit Asia Band and Tung Duong. Several popular Vietnamese songs such as “Chiếc khăn Piêu”, “Một thoáng Tây Hồ”, “Giăng Tơ”… are harmonized in the style of jazz music. It is music that really brought all the artists at the concert close together.

In his opening speech, H.E. Hida, Consul General of Japan, highly appreciated the artists’ effort and thanked Vietnamese audiences for the love they had for the band. He also expressed his wish to invite them again on the event to mark 40 years of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations. The concert night has contributed to build up a cultural bridge between ASEAN and Japan, aiming to reach a friendly and peaceful relationship with the sharing of meaningful messages in our life.

The concert was emotionally ended with a musical composition about Fukushima event, whose lyrics were written by the musicians of the band, reflecting the love of friends all over the world for Japan. Before this concert, Unit Asia and Tung Duong had had a performance at Tuoi Tre (the Youth) Theater in Hanoi on July 12.
