INDIA CELEBRATES 66TH REPUBLIC DAY
, 09/02/2015 08:02Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, attended the celebration of 66th Republic Day of India hosted by the Consulate General of India at the Sofitel Hotel, HCMC on January 26, 2015. Also present at the event were Tat Thanh Cang, Deputy Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee as well as representatives of the HCMC Department of External Relations, of localities, Indian enterprises, Vietnamese businesses and diplomatic corps.

The Vietnam – India friendship originated from the shared spiritual and cultural features between the two civilizations from ancient times. In addition, the firm friendship between Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President Ho Chi Minh helps form a strong foundation for economic, cultural and social development between the two countries. Challenges after winning independence have opened many avenues for mutual cooperation and support. The current relationship between India and Vietnam is built up on great trust, deep friendship and common opinions on many aspects. Besides diplomatic affairs at the state level, other events between the two countries’ peoples also progress, especially cultural and artistic exchanges.
At the celebration, Consul General of India Smita Pant expressed happiness about the continuous development of the strategic partnership between India and Vietnam during the past period of time. She believed that the goal of increasing bilateral trade up to US$15 billion in 2020 has the great potential to be achieved. Bank of India, the third largest bank in India, has planned to establish a branch in HCMC, and three Indian commercial corporations are going to come to the city this year in order to connect investment activities between the two countries’ enterprises.

Deputy Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee said that thanks to mutual efforts, the cooperative relationship between HCMC and India will flourish in the future. “As a center of many fields in Vietnam, HCMC has always played a major role in promoting cooperation with India. I believe that the Consulate General of India will continue to be an important bridge for the HCMC – India relationship, which helps strengthen the Vietnam – India relations for bilateral benefits as well as for local and global peace and prosperity”, emphasized the Deputy Chairman.
