JAPANESE MIME ACTOR IIMURO NAOKI TO PERFORM IN VIETNAM
, 06/03/2013 17:03The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies attended the program “MIME SOLO ACT: Time of Mime” by the talented Japanese mime actor Iimuro Naoki, which took place at the Youth World Theater on the evening of March 05 in HCMC.
The program, held by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, belongs to a series of activities marking the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – Japan diplomatic relations.
Having been taught mime by Marcel Marceau, the founder of modern pantomime, Iimuro Naoki has performed at many festivals in the world, winning a lot of prizes both in Japan and overseas.
Iimuro Naoki’s basic technique “time-slice” made the audience feel as if they were watching a film with different angles of rotation. His movements break down the language barrier and bring the audience not only peals of laughter but also implicitly meaningful stories of life.
Both adults and children can enjoy the attractiveness of this silent type of art. Iimuro Naoki’s body language and his expressive face bring humorous moments for the program.

Iimuro makes Vietnamese audience understand that mime is an interesting and multidimensional art, for it is supported not only by the body movements but by music and fine art also.
Some acts in the program such as The artist’s Sadness, Imaginary Journey, Universe in a Cup, A World in Balance, A Worker, A Black Morning, Butterflies, etc. completely convinced the audience. Particularly, the acts entitled “A World in Balance”, which helped Iimuro Naoki win the Gold Medal at the 3rd World Delphic Games (where young professional artists compete with each other) in 2009, brought the audience profound feelings and humanitarian messages of life.
After performing two shows in HCMC on March 5 & 6, actor Iimuro Naoki will continue his performances at Youth Theater, Hanoi on March 9 & 10.
