According to Kochi, the process of selecting and examining applications is carried out by a prestigious committee of professors from leading universities in Japan. This year the period of time for studies on Vietnam – Japan issues may be extended up to 2 years instead of 1 as before.
Kochi hopes to boost the cooperation between Vietnamese researchers and Japanese counterparts, as well as between the two countries. He also shared about the plan to expand the foundation to Hue City in ensuing years so that Vietnamese scholars will have more options and chances to advance human resources in the country.
The Sumitomo Foundation provides grants for research projects whose aims are to determine or help solve problems that confront humanity in terms of culture or environment as well as supporting basic science research projects and international exchanges. The active operation of this foundation has built a bridge for the Vietnam – Japan relationship, especially in the field of human resource training, helping establish cooperation among scientists of the two countries. Many Vietnam researchers have received grants from the foundation during the past years.
