MEETING WITH MR. ERNESTO H. BRAAM, REGIONAL STRATEGIC ADVISOR SOUTHEAST ASIA OF DUTCH EMBASSY IN SINGAPORE

, 07/12/2017 10:12

On November 25, Dr. Tran Dinh welcomed Mr. Ernesto H.Braam LL.M., Regional Strategic Advisor Southeast Asia of Dutch Embassy and Governor of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in Singapore.

Also present at the meeting was Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung – Dean of Faculty of International Relations, HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Mr. Braam paid Vietnam compliments on its success in organizing the 2017 APEC Summit. He was surprised at and highly valued the changes and growth of Vietnam compared to the first time he visited the country in 1993. Vietnam has made continuous socio-economic developments and proved its important role in Southeast Asia.

In addition to socio-economic issues, Mr. Braam added that education is another sector that is worth the Vietnamese state’s concern. From his experience in working in Singapore, he believed that Vietnam can learn from its educational model. The Singaporean government has made huge investment in education since Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew took his leadership.

Thanks to its efforts and productive investments, Singapore has made radical changes and become a developed nation in all aspects, making the country’s accomplishments impressive and desirable to other countries. Vietnam should learn from Singapore in order to reach the goal of sustainable development, increasing its role and status in the ASEAN community.
