The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies met with Koichi Ishizuka, representative of the Sumitomo Foundation, Japan, on July 05.
The Sumitomo Foundation funds research projects which aim to indicate or deal with problems humankind is facing such as culture and environment, as well as provides support for fundamental science research and international exchanges. Its active operation has formed a bridge for the Vietnam – Japan relations, especially in human resources training, helping to connect scientists of the two countries. Many Vietnamese professors and archaeologists have been given funds by this foundation.

Mr. Koichi Ishizuka visited the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.
Discussing with Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Koichi hopes that there will be more projects of Vietnamese researchers which can compete with those from other universities and institutes all over the world to be funded by the Sumitomo Foundation. These kinds of support are a promise of human resource development of Vietnam in the future.
After the visit to the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, Koichi had a talk to over 30 researchers and lectures of the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the HCMC University of Pedagogy.
