MEETING WITH PROF. TAKASHI SEKIYAMA FROM MEIJI UNIVERSITY, JAPAN
, 06/09/2013 18:09Dr. Tran Dinh Lam has just met with Prof. Takashi Sekiyama from the Meiji University (Japan) and had some discussion on Vietnam’s economy on the occasion of 24 students of this university visiting the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
While the governments of Japan and Vietnam are holding discussions on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) with the hope of having mutual cooperation, doctors, farmers and media enterprises are concerned about their business if the governments sign TPP. It is supposed that their business will be negatively affected and some weak enterprises will even go bankrupt when customs duty is removed.

Dr. Tran Dinh Lam (L) presented books to Prof. Takashi Sekiyama.
Prof. Takashi Sekiyama also attended the seminar on economic reform with 24 students from the Meiji University and had some remarks on foreign investment in Vietnam, for example why the ICOR index of foreign investment is higher than that of some other economic sectors. He wishes to share Japan’s human resources with Vietnam by dispatching students to study and work there. Besides, he also expressed his happiness when many students (24) registered for courses on economics, politics, society and culture of Vietnam in English. After finishing the courses, these students have to take an oral examination and send their papers on tourism and foreign investment in Vietnam via email.
At the seminar, Meiji University students shared interesting ideas about the development of Vietnam’s economy, infrastructure, traffic safety, cities’ hygiene as well as security for tourists. This is a good chance for Vietnamese students and those working in management to learn what foreign students think about the development issues of Vietnam’s economy.
