MEETING WITH THE PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION OF THE U.S LED BY CONGRESSMAN JASON CHAFFETZ
, 11/09/2013 10:09The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences & Humanities (HCMC USSH) had a meeting with the representatives of the parliamentary delegation of the U.S at the university on August 30, 2013.
The U.S delegation was led by Congressman Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House National Security, Homeland Defense, and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Another delegate was Congressman James Lewis, Professional Member. Accompanied with the Congressman delegation was the U.S Consulate General in Vietnam led by Ms. Rena Bitter, Consul General.
On the side of the university, there was the participation of Prof. Dr.Vo Van Sen - President of the HCMC USSH; M.A Bang Anh Tuan - Head of the Office of International Co-operation and International Project Development; Dr. Tran Nam Tien, Vice Director of the Center for Sea and Island Studies, and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam - Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

HCMC USSH's President Vo Van Sen presented gift to Congressman Jason Chaffetz.
During the meeting, Congressmen of the US delegation had a discussion on issues related to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries in the hope that the region will stay in peace without conflicts and also respect the international laws. Congressman Chaffetz claimed that the countries in this region need exchanges and sharing in order to maintain the stability and economic development. He also mentioned the importance of traffic situation on East Sea and hoped that there will be tight cooperation among the countries in the region to keep the East Sea in peace.
HCMC USSH President Vo Van Sen shared his experiences about his visit to islands of Vietnam, recognizing the concern of the government about the protection of Vietnamese seas and islands and hoped that the youth generation of Vietnam will show their determination in protecting sea and island authority. He also hoped that the US parliamentary delegation will support Vietnam to hold more seminars on this issue. Besides, he highly appreciated the contributions of the U.S to the training of human resource for Vietnam and expressed his honor to welcome the delegation to the university.
It is important that the Southeast Asian countries must develop and build up the economics in peace as regional conflicts will lose the exchange in human resource among the countries. In order to maintain the mutual development, the countries in the region need to put more weight on education to improve people’s awareness.
