ONLINE TEACHING EXPERIENCE: A SHARING SESSION WITH DR. JOHN HATCHER – UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH
, 28/04/2020 17:04In the morning of March 13th, 2020, an experience exchange session on “Using Google tools to teach online classes” was hosted at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) by Dr. John Hatcher – Professor at the Department of Communication, University of Minnesota Duluth.
The exchange welcomed the attendance from representatives of Faculties and Centers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, including: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Le Hoa Thanh – Deputy Director of the Center for Vocational Guidance and Human Resource Development, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung – Director of the Center for International Studies, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, Mr. Ho Quang Trinh (MA) – Deputy Head of Organization and Personnel Department. In attendance were also members of the University staff.
By means of comparison between different models of online teaching, Prof. Dr. John Hatcher summarized the situation of online teaching at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Besides Google app suite, he and his colleagues had applied tools such as Facebook and Youtube to diversify their method of conducting online classes as well as to keep their teaching progress up to date and enhance student interaction. During the discussion section, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Le Hoa Tranh shared their experiences in giving presentations, testing students’ knowledge, and dealing with technical issues during the teaching session.
By the end of the discussion, Prof. John Hatcher gave detailed instructions on how to use a number of tools such as Google Docs (for online text editing), Google Website (for creating a website), Google Drive (for online file storage), Google Slides (for creating online slideshow), etc.
This experience exchange session is organized by the Office of Development and Personnel, USSH as part of a series of activities aimed to diversify the teaching model at the University in response to practical demand and complicated development of COVID-19.
