At the opening ceremony, Consul General Hida Harumitsu said that the message the exhibition aims to convey to visitors is that peace plays an essential role in a country’s development. According to Mr. Hida Harumitsu, the achievements during the past period of time should be a motivation and foundation for future progress. He hopes that the exhibition will be an opportunity for the Vietnamese to better understand Japan. Japan wishes to maintain investments in Vietnam, contributing the experience in developing the country which Japan has accumulated during the past years to Vietnam.
This is an international photography exhibition presented in Southeast Asian and South Asian nations for the first time. It is an adaptation of the exhibition “Japan: A Self-Portrait, Photographs 1945-1964”, which used to leave a profound impression when displayed at Setagaya Art Museum, Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art and several other well-known sites in Japan. The exhibition showcases more than 100 black and white photographs of 11 leading Japanese photographers. They are classified under 3 sections: “The Aftermath of War”, “Between Tradition and Modernity” and “Towards a New Japan”.
