The news about the Conference was broadcasted at 9:10 on July 15th on HTV7 channel and was broadcasted again at 10:00 on July 16th, 17th on HTV9. (Please see here)

With the theme “Management in the Information Technology Era”, through analyzing the portrait of sustainable leadership in the digital era, Prof. Dr. Bui Tung emphasized the role of the “strategic weapon” of information technology in the success of business administrators. If a manager is able to apply and exploit information technology, he will create a positive self-image as well as boosting his company’s competitiveness during the period of economic integration.

As a leading expert in global business, the professor gave a thorough analysis of the roles of IT in the commercial environments in many countries of the region and worldwide. He has been recognized as a chief architect in the IT department at Vietnam National University – both in Hanoi and HCMC. Prof. Bui Tung has published over 12 books and released hundreds of research papers in many fields. He is now the manager of the EMBA Program at the Scheidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa. He also works as a Manager of Global Business at Matson Navigation Company. The professor won the best paper award at the 1996 Hawaii International Conference in System Sciences.

According to Prof. Bui Tung, the University of Hawaii at Manoa has been launching some cooperative programs with member universities of Vietnam National University – Hanoi and HCMC in the fields of IT, economics and business administration. The University of Hawaii at Manoa is one of the most prestigious higher institutions in the U.S.

After Prof. Bui Tung’s came a presentation on “Macroeconomic issues and financial market in Vietnam” by Dr. Truong Van Phuoc. He said that Vietnam will never default on its national debt, which has been a big problem to Greece or Iceland. Although many people have expressed concern over this issue, Vietnam will be unlikely to suffer such a risk. That is because in the structure of Vietnam’s national debt, domestic loans, not foreign loans, account for a large percentage. Besides, Vietnam enjoys a lot of favorable conditions to improve its financial situation.

Mr. Phuoc added that Vietnam’s economy suffered the most serious difficulties during the global crisis and it has now been stable. “This year’s inflation is predicted to be just at 2%, or 3% max. The exchange rate remains stable and GDP is estimated to increase by 6%. These factors make foreign investors consider Vietnam as a place worth their investment”, emphasized Mr. Phuoc.

As a representative of the organizing committee, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, acknowledged what Prof.Dr. Bui Tung and Dr. Truong Van Phuoc shared at the event. Young generations need to enhance their knowledge and gain more experience, especially in the field of information technology in order to become excellent leaders in the digital era, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s market and economy.
