RECEPTION ON 85TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY OF THAI KING
, 04/12/2012 09:12The Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies just attended a reception on the occasion of 85th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej held by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Thailand in HCM City on the evening of December 03, 2012.
Present at the reception were Ms. Panpimon Suwannapongse – the Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in HCM City, Mr. Le Manh Ha – the Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Consuls General of some countries, representatives of several departments and businesses of Thailand in Vietnam, etc.
In her speech delivered at the reception, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in HCM City, Ms. Panpimon Suwannapongse, said that the 05th of December was a very special day in Thailand for it marked the birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Kingdom of Thailand. All Thais, wherever they are, join together to express their gratitude and reverence to His Majesty for his benevolences and dedication the King has shown to his citizens.

As the world’s longest serving monarch, His Majesty the King has devoted his all time and efforts to bettering the life of Thai people during the past 66 years. He has initiated more than 4,000 development projects, which focus on the issues affecting Thai people’s daily life, particularly on agriculture, fishery, water resource and soil management. His philosophy on the Sufficient Economy aims to offer ammunition to Thai farmers in coping with globalization.
Not only is His Majesty the King a philosopher, but he is also a great artist, a developer and an inventor. As a result, the reception was filled with musical compositions of His Majesty the King performed by Thai and Vietnamese artists.
Concerning the relations between Thailand and Vietnam, the two countries have enjoyed close and cordial relations at all levels and in all sectors of cooperation.
The Vice Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee, Mr. Le Manh Ha, also took part in the reception and had a speech on this occasion. “Being the two neighboring countries, Thailand and Vietnam not only have many characteristics of culture, custom and natural conditions in common, but the two countries also share many goals, such as economic development and improvement in living standard for citizens, making contributions to peace and prosperity of the region,” said Mr. Le Manh Ha.
This year, the second Joint Cabinet Retreat was held in October in Hanoi, co-chaired by His Excellency Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung of Vietnam and Her Excellency Prime Minister Yingluck Shiwanatra of Thailand. The two leaders agreed to upgrade the bilateral relations to strategic partnership. Both sides committed to deepening cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchanges in the context of increasing connectivity and the birth of the ASEAN Economic Community by the end of 2015.
Beyond bilateral cooperation, Vietnam and Thailand have been active members cooperating effectively within the frame of ASEAN. Both countries are working closely with other ASEAN members towards establishing an integrated, united and prosperous ASEAN Community.
