On November 13th, 2014, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a presentation at the New York University (the U.S.) with the theme “Economy of Vietnamese ethnic minorities: A case study of the Bahnar people”.
The presentation was conducted by Prof. Eva Lu with the participation of lecturers, graduates and post-graduates at the New York University. The talk focused on the Bahnar people’s economic and cultural issues, viewpoint of life, philosophy of happiness and environment-friendly conception in their development process.

Factors such as human resources and educating ethnic minorities were supposed to be the key to the development by the students. The question “What should be done to lessen disadvantages for ethnic groups?” also provoked interesting discussion. All suggestions given were mainly related to the investment in infrastructure and welfare services for those groups.
Back in 2001, New York University’s President, John Brademas, together with Prof. Grace Mishler, visited Vietnam and the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the first time, which opened the door for future support for the Faculty of Social Work at the university.
