SEMINAR ON MANAGEMENT AND COMMERCIALIZATION OF IP, SHARING HEIP-LINK PROJECT
, 01/10/2013 08:10Dr. Tran Dinh Lam attended a seminar “Management and commercialization of intellectual property (IP) at universities and institutes” organized by the Vietnam Bureau of Intellectual Property in collaboration with the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) in HCMC on September 27.
The seminar saw the participation of Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Center for Research and Training, Bureau of IP; Kosuke Minami, Manager of the Division of Regional Cooperation, Office of International Cooperation, JPO; Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Deputy Head of the Board of Science and Technology, Director of the Center for Intellectual and Technology Transfer, VNU – HCMC; Takao Ogiya, Director of the Asia Pacific Industrial Property Center (APIC – JIII); Shinji Ohnishi, Chairman and CEO of Kansai Technology Transfer Company. In addition, there also was the presence of staff, lecturers and researchers from universities in the city.

Speakers from Japan had presentations on the system of policies used to support and manage Intellectual Property at Japanese universities, on cooperation between businesses and scholars, and on commercialization of IP at universities and institutes in Japan.
On the side of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi also had a detailed report on the current situation of IP activities at Vietnamese universities and research institutes.
Reports and presentations helped the participants on information about IP and technology transfer in Japan in comparison with Vietnam so that they could gain more understanding of the subject, which will be useful for their research and teaching job.

As an additional activity besides the seminar, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a discussion with Nguyen Van Bay and Dr. Nguyen Anh Thi about HEIP-LINK project, which is being carried out by the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies under a program and coordinated by the University of Alicante (Spain) with the financial assistance from the European Commission through Erasmus Mundus program. The two experts put an emphasis on the fundamental basis of IP at universities, and they all highly valued and are impressed with the project since it connects universities in 60 countries to make knowledge of IP understood and shared. Nguyen Van Bay hopes that there will be more such practical cooperative programs among countries to help better resources of each.
