, 03/03/2017 15:03Dr. Tran Dinh Lam had a talk on “Economic reform in Vietnam” with Prof. Tsuboi alongside students from the Waseda University and the Faculty of International Relations, Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities (HCMC USSH) on February 17.
After Dr. Tran Dinh Lam’s presentation, the students had discussions about several issues relating to the process of economic transformation, must-have policies for residents to benefit from the reform and the alleviation of the rich-poor gap. In addition, the participants voiced their opinions on traffic congestion in HCM City as well as what should be conveyed to its citizens and students in order to raise their awareness of the problem.
All of them agreed that besides the achievements in economic growth worth of complimentary remarks, Vietnam needs to pay more attention to maintain a sustainable environment. Vietnamese people’s pride in war has now shifted into powerful forces in peacetime, but the country’s workforce should be equipped with more training to accelerate its development.
The students expressed their strong feelings about the China-Vietnam border war (in February 1979), which took a heavy toll and caused negative impacts on the Vietnamese economy as well as disorders in the relationships of the regional countries.
All of the involved parties need to follow the international tribunal’s ruling in The Hague on the East Sea so as to maintain peace and security. It is necessary to sustain a free environment of navigation and boost trade cooperation for mutual growth.
