On December 16, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, met up with Dr. Claudia Linditsch from the FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences (Austria).
Dr. Ngo Thanh Loan, Dean of the Department of Tourism of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – HCM City, was also present to welcome Ms. Claudia Linditsch. She hoped to collaborate with the university in Austria to carry out a project on developing ecotourism in Vietnam.

Dr. Claudia Linditsch (M)
According to Ms. Claudia Linditsch, Thailand is now one of the countries having the most effective model of ecotourism. Vietnam has similar geographical features, ecological diversity and climate to Thailand’s; however, ecotourism models in Vietnam have proved not very efficient. A large number of ecotourism destinations have been spontaneously founded, which are exploiting natural resources and do not take sustainable development into consideration.
Ms. Claudia Linditsch is seeking support from European communities to set up projects on ecotourism development in Vietnam based on Thailand’s model. If they are implemented, Vietnamese scientists and policy-makers will get a good opportunity to learn from Thailand’s experience and work with European scientists.
Before heading for Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Claudia Linditsch also visited and worked with the Department of Tourism at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – Hanoi and Hue University.
