Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand to HCMC Panpimon Suwannaponge delivered her remarks.
Vietnam is now the second-biggest trade partner of Thailand in the region, and the latter ranks number 10 among the countries having direct investment in the former, with 315 projects and total capital around USD 6.5 billion. In HCMC in particular, there have been 135 projects with the capital of over USD 221 million, mainly in service, commerce, manufacturing and business. Up to the end of the 3rd quarter of 2014, the bilateral trade amounted to 8.54 billion US dollars, and it is targeted to reach USD 15 billion in 2020.
According to Panpimon Suwannaponge, the year of 2014 has an important meaning to the two countries’ relations. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand has recently paid his first introductory visit to Vietnam, signing the 5-year “Plan of Action Implementing the Strategic Partnership between Thailand and Vietnam”. The agreement will help intensify and deepen the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Thailand in all areas of cooperation for the sake of the two countries’ peoples and ASEAN.
Upon this occasion, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Thailand to HCMC donated over VND 100 million to support the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations and granted 60 scholarships (worth VND 60 million) to poor and disabled students in District 4, Can Gio Province.
