Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities), accompanied two students, Clark Allison and Mary-Micheal Linsay, and professor Ho Ngoc Phuong to visit a company manufacturing shoe insoles in HCMC on January 28, 2015.

The company was established with 100% of capital from the US. According to the manager, their company’s shoe insoles are completely processed in Vietnam with good quality, meeting all strict requirements of the US government. Although the workforce consists of only 350 employees, productivity is very high with the output of over 2 million insoles each month. The manager added that their company has received many orders from well-known footwear brands worldwide.
The manager said that their company has a plan to form more companies in Vietnam. He hoped that Vietnam’s legal issues and investment policies will be more explicit to create better conditions for investors.
The field trip was aimed at helping the US students explore the working and living environment of workers, through which they will be able to gain more understanding of working capacity of employees and investing environments of foreign companies in Vietnam.
