, 05/03/2015 10:03

On February 03, 2015, Prof. Ki Hyong Sohn, President of CNU, paid a visit to the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH). The professor was welcomed by Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan – Vice President of HCMC USSH, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS) and Bang Anh Tuan – Director of the Office of International Cooperation and International Project Development.

CNU is one of the five major national universities in Korea, which is allocated a generous research budget, especially for studies on social sciences and humanities, with an annual fund of over $100 million. The university is also the best performers in the human resources developer (HRD) projects for the Korean government with quality and large-scale training. Additionally, it often offers short-term training courses (with about 500 participants per class, in which Korean students account for 50% and the rest are international ones).

Upon the visit, Prof. Ki Hyong Sohn happily shared that the Korean government grants scholarships to outstanding Vietnamese students for their higher education and research in Korea. Prof. Ki Hyong Sohn wished to have cooperation with and provide support for HCMC USSH in human resources training, especially in the fields of social sciences and humanities, which is vey necessary for the relationship between the two countries’ education systems. There are now 1,100 international students, including 100 Vietnamese ones, studying and doing research at CNU.

CNU is located in the metropolitan city of Gwangju in Chonnam Province in the southwest of Korea. It was formally established in 1952 and has become the second largest public university in Korea, only after the University of Seoul.

The University consists of over 2,200 members in the teaching staff, offering full services of teaching and providing support for about 37,000 students in 19 colleges with undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate programs as well as short-term courses, including 5,000 students majoring in Business Administration and more than 1,000 international students from 40 countries.

With a network of alumni of up to 26,000 people, CNU is regarded as the best university in undertaking the HRD projects for the Korean government.
