Prof. Robin K. Walters-Powell (M) visited the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.
Introduced by Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Prof. Robin K. Walters-Powell shared some matters of study and future career with the students. According this professor, every student should set their own goals, self-analyze their own strengths and weaknesses as well as identify the obstacles they may face on their way to success so that they can propose sound plans. One of the essential factors to lead to success is that you have to face challenges and persistently try to fulfill your aims.
The problems raised by many students during the discussion included job opportunities after graduation and how to leave the recruiters with good impression. Understanding these students’ concerns, the professor said that the strengths many students have are language proficiency and good skills in information technology. Besides these qualities, each should create his own identity and show his strengths with confidence to choose the right jobs. Additionally, students are also encouraged to take the risk of making changes, not only for themselves but for their community also.

Prof. Robin had a talk with students from the Faculty of International Relations, HCMC USSH.
The professor advised these students that before starting to do their professional work, they should participate in social activities and voluntary programs to help communities who are still suffering difficulties. Moreover, some issues such as students’ responsibility to environmental protection, social welfare and aid for old people in Vietnam and the U.S were also brought to the discussion. Some experiences of Vietnam’s interesting characteristics as well as the differences between the two cultures through the professor’s observation made the talk much more lively and exciting.
Prof. Robin also emphasized the importance of human resources. We need to have more exchange programs among the countries to improve the quality of human resources and promote mutual understanding of culture, country and people, aiming at the co-development in the future.
After the talk, the professor said that she was greatly impressed by the students since they are confident and have a good command of English.
