WORKING WITH DR. RICHARD SCOTT FREY, SCHOLAR OF FULBRIGHT PROGRAM, UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE (USA)

Dr. Tran Dinh Lam worked with Dr. Richard Scott Frey, a scholar of Fulbright Program in Vietnam, to discuss cooperative plans for teaching and doing research between this scholar with the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Sociology at the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) on the morning of May 13, 2013.
The working session with Dr. Richard Scott Frey also had the participation of Dr. Pham Gia Tran – Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Xoan – Dean of the Faculty of Sociology, HCMC USSH. Dr. Frey majors in sociology, and he is currently lecturing at the University of Tennessee (USA). Areas of his interest include environmental sociology, development and public policy. He said that he had been to Vietnam for many times through other exchange programs before.

In the frame of Fulbright program in Vietnam this time, Dr. Frey is one of the seven scholars who have been under consideration to be selected to lecture and carry out studies in Vietnam within the school year 2013 – 2014. He may give lectures and presentations on sociology to graduates and post graduates. In addition, Dr. Frey hopes to work in collaboration with the university to build up and assess textbooks, provide instruction on writing theses, participate in doing research and share some issues relating to higher education in the U.S. Besides, he also wants to help students improve their language and communication skills during the period of time he works in Vietnam.
Dr. Frey will officially work and lecture at the HCMC USSH from September 2013 to January 2014. The university believes that Dr. Frey, with his long experience in teaching and doing studies, will share invaluable knowledge and experience with lecturers and students at USSH. Additionally, such programs will help to promote cooperation between U.S. scholars and the university in the future.
