, 21/06/2010 13:06On the morning of May 13, 2010, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies held a preliminary report on the program of the survey research on epitaphs in Ninh Thuan Province.
From May 5, 2010 to May 11, 2010, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies in co-ordination with the French college of General Far East conducted a survey research on epitaphs in Ninh Thuan. The delegation included: Assoc. Prof. Dr Thanh Phan, vice-director of the Center, Prof. Dr. Arlo Grifiths (Holland), the French college of General Far East, BA. Ham Seihasarann (Cambodia), House of French Cultures, and BA. Khom Sreymom (Cambodia), House of French Cultures.

After working with the local authorities, the delegation began working at the Provincial Museum. The main part of the survey research on epitaphs was conducted in many places in the province. The delegation worked very hard: sometimes riding, sometimes walking through the forests, sometimes climbing, sometimes traveling in the sea by boat, ... to explore a lot of ancient epitaphs. They discovered the ancient epitaphs that had not been studied previously located in the remote forests. The ancient epitaphs of Cham people are very rich and diverse. There are some epitaphs from the 8th century and some that are 5 meters high. These epitaphs make some contribution to the cultural uniqueness of Cham.
Prof. Dr Arlo Griffiths was very enthusiastic with the studies and he wished to continue the research in the coming time. Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies highly evaluated the program of the survey research on epitaphs, which is very essential to spread the ethnic cultures to the scientific communities of the world.
