CELEBRATING 112TH DOUBLE TENTH NATIONAL DAY OF TAIWAN

, 20/10/2023 09:10

On October 10, 2023, Taiwan (Republic of China) celebrated its 112th Double Tenth National Day. A grand reception was held in celebration of the milestone by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City at the Nikko Saigon Hotel.

In attendance were representatives from various departments and sectors, foreign diplomatic delegations, Taiwanese and Vietnamese business associations, and representatives of the Taiwanese community living, studying, and working in Vietnam.

On the side of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) and University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City (USSH-HCM), was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Tam – Vice President of the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Dr. Phan Thanh Dinh – Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City; and Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of International Cooperation Program, Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Han, Kuo-Yao – Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh, reflected on Taiwan’s achievements in the last year.

In the aftermath of COVID-19, Taiwan has accelerated the transformation of its domestic industrial model and strengthened global coordination efforts by moving Taiwan forwards in three directions — "building economic resilience", “strengthening the position in the international supply chain”, and reaching “net zero emissions” — thereby establishing a linked chain with the global industrial sector. As a result, Taiwan has positioned itself as a crucial link in the global supply chain producing 60% of the world's semiconductor output and 92% of the most advanced chips in the world.

Economic relations between Taiwan and Vietnam have remained strong, emphasized Mr. Han, Kuo-Yao. Taiwan continues to be Vietnam’s fourth largest foreign investor and fifth largest trading partner. There are currently 4,250 Taiwanese businesses in Vietnam generating over a million job opportunities. Last month, the President of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam, Mr. Gian Tri Minh, presented a white paper on commercial investment to the Vietnamese government. The white paper included many comments and specific suggestions on facilitating many cooperation opportunities between the two nations.

The renewal of tourism cooperation and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Vietnam has also been noted. There has been a significant increase in the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Taiwan. In the first six months of 2023, visitor number surpassed 190,000 representing a 95% recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels. In September, the Taiwanese Department of Tourism sent 32 travel companies from Taiwan to participate in the 17th International Travel Expo held in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, Taiwan remains a popular destination for Vietnamese students due to high employability prospects post-graduation. It is estimated that over 240,000 Vietnamese individuals are working and studying in Taiwan. This has been greatly beneficial to the expansion of Vietnam’s talent pool and economic development. To further attract talents to Taiwan, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City has supported universities in Taiwan to establish "International Education Cooperation Office" to provide study abroad consulting services.
