At the beginning of the training, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Hanh introduced some scientific indicators; how to categorize and make use of them in developing sustainable tourism. She stressed that not only scientists but also stakeholders including private enterprises providing tourism services need to have certain understanding of the indicators specifying the burden of tourism development on the destination site itself. From there, we all can know how to devise proper plans to develop tourism in a sustainable and long term way.

In the second topic, MA Duong Duc Minh mentioned the valuable chain of tourism, transportation channels, and approaches to the sustainable development of current tourism chains. Besides, he also talked about the contribution of the “new rural” to the development of sustainable tourism in areas of potentialities in the Mekong Delta.

Ms. Dinh Thi Minh Xuan, representative of Heart Venture, introduced some charity programmes and outdoor activities organized for foreign students when coming to Vietnam. They will not only sight-see beautiful places but also experience the lives of local people, which helps promote the image of Vietnam.

Concluding the workshop, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam once again emphasized the importance of sustainable development in Vietnam, especially, the involvement of researchers, private enterprises, local government, and international cooperation.
