Korean researchers appreciate the process of economic reform in Vietnam with open door policies to the world. However, Vietnam needs to put more emphasis on rural development in order to narrow the rich-poor gap.
Prof. Kim shared Korea’s experience in the birth of Saemaul Undong, also known as the New Village Movement, as well as cooperation and promotion of internal strengths. According to the professor, Vietnamese enterprises need to cooperate with farmers for mutual development. The government should implement aid programs to help farmers minimize the impacts of climate change. The professors also mentioned the importance of overseas Vietnamese in the industrialization process in Vietnam. Their intelligence and capacity need to be made used of in order to build a bridge for the Vietnamese market to expand globally.
After the discussions about measures to promote sustainable economic growth, the professors made an analysis of changing economies, including the rise of China and countries in the Southeast Sea. The involved nations need to maintain a peaceful, stable environment, contributing to joint prosperity and showing respect for the PCE South China Sea ruling. Prof. Yoon stated that Mao Zedong’s mistake in developing the Chinese economy in the 1960s – 1970s urged Korea to accelerate its industrialization.
The professors hope Vietnam will continue to facilitate innovation and prepare human resources for a new, more competitive era through improving its value of products in an export-oriented market.
Prof. Yoon talked about the experience in preparing the workforce during the tenure of President Park Chung Hee through dispatching trainees to the US and Western countries. The government values overseas Koreans’ grey matter and calls for their contribution to their home country by offering them accommodation, giving them cars and paying them well. In addition, it creates favorable conditions to attract students studying abroad to return to Korea, which is regarded as a lesson for Vietnam to learn in its development process.
