Smartphone users in Vietnam account for 55% of the population

, 13/06/2017 08:06

TTO – It was estimated that about 55% of Vietnamese people used smartphones in 2016, an increase of 25% compared to the year 2015.

Among those smartphone users, 34% of them use it to connect with Facebook, 29% watching videos, and 28% using maps, etc.

Those statistics were provided by Mr. Jay Hartwell, a lecturer as well as faculty adviser to student media programs at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and the literary journal Hawai’i Review, in his workshop on “The importance of social networking sites to the development of businesses, especially Vietnamese enterprises”, which was held by the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) on May 23.

According Mr. Jay Hartwell’s studies, Facebook, Zalo, Facebook messenger and Google are the most widely-used social networks in Vietnam. They are useful channels of advertising, promoting and marketing businesses’ products if they want to approach consumers with different age groups.

Mr. Jay Hartwell also added that depending on enterprises’ opinion and their target customers, their chosen forms of advertising goods and spreading messages need to suit the taste and need of using social networks (including private video channels) of young people these days.

Channels of advertising and marketing products through broadcasting on television during prime time or posting information on the front page of daily newspapers and other well-known news websites are attracting less young people’s attention than they used to.
