TOURIST MEMBERS EXPERIENCED LOCAL CULTURE IN THE WORKSHOP: CONSTRUCTING THE TRADITIONAL RURAL VALUES FOR VIETNAM LOTUS ECO VILLAGE.

, 11/12/2020 22:12
On December 3rd & 4th, 2020, within the framework of work package No.4 of TOURIST project, funded by the EU’s Erasmus+, six students from the Faculty of Tourism, USSH had a field trip to Phuc Khang Corporation’s green projects, which were Vietnam Lotus Eco Village Urban Area (Long An Province), Diamond Lotus Riverside Project (District 8, HCMC) and Green Gallery (District 1, HCMC). The trip was a part of the workshop: “Constructing traditional rural values for Vietnam Lotus Eco Village”, organized by Phuc Khang Corporation, Thu Dau Mot University (TDMU), and Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies (CVSEAS) - USSH.

A two-day field trip and practicing of architecture-tourism design had the participation of the teachers from USSH and TDMU, CEO of Phuc Khang Corporation - Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Mau, heads of the Office of Product Research and Development, and together with 70 students from Faculty of Architecture - TDMU and Faculty of Tourism - USSH.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Mau introduced the achievements that Phuc Khang Group has gained in the development process, as well as their determination towards building the country greener and more traditional. The goal of the workshop was to strengthen knowledge of sustainable development for students of the two universities, and also to call for the contribution of the young generation in making the green buildings, aiming for the model of a smart city combined with ecotourism following the collection of 17 interlinked goals of the UN sustainable development goals.

By the time of the workshop, in September 2020, Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Mau had given a speech about green tourism development in urban areas at the Conference hosted by Ho Chi Minh Department of Construction with the highlight on Developing The Creative City Thu Duc. In order to build a sustainable urban environment for the community, Ms. Luu Thi Thanh Mau noted that the zoning plan for Thu Duc City needs to reserve space for the public, especially a strip of land along Saigon River and Dong Nai River. The parks along the two banks of the rivers would contribute to beautifying the landscape, protecting the environment, attracting locals and tourists, multiplying the value of land and investment. This speech was a bridge to help students of TOURIST project have the opportunity to explore the green development model of Phuc Khang Corporation.

Besides, at the workshop, the students of two universities also gave their presentations about the topics: An overview of the economy - culture - architecture and tourism in Binh Duong presented by TDMU students and Potential for tourism in Long An province presented by USSH students. After the opening ceremony, students from TDMU continued to participate in the project contest with the topics: homestay model, shophouse model, and landscape planning; while students from USSH shared their ideas about tourist attractions for homestay model and their plans for the traditional festival celebration in Vietnam Lotus Eco Village.
