CELEBRATION OF 105TH TAIWAN DOUBLE TENTH NATIONAL DAY
, 13/10/2016 18:10Dr. Tran Dinh Lam, Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, attended the celebration of the 105th Double Tenth National Day of Taiwan held by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam on October 10, 2016.
Participants at the event included Mr. Le Hung Quoc – Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, Mr. Liang Kuang Chung – Head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, and representatives of foreign affairs departments, universities, research centers as well as Taiwanese and Vietnamese enterprises. The celebration took place in an open and cordial atmosphere.

In his remarks, Mr. Liang Kuang Chung said that Taiwan has always been an important trade partner of Vietnam during the last 24 years since the establishment of the two countries’ relations. Up to July this year, the two-way trades between Taiwan and Vietnam reached US$6.2 billion. Taiwan is also the 5th largest trade partner of Vietnam, whereas Vietnam is Taiwan’s third largest trade partner and the 2nd biggest destination for exports in ASEAN.
According to Mr. Le Quoc Hung, who also delivered an address to the participants at the event, it can be said that Taiwanese businesspeople were the first investors to Vietnam from the beginning of its reform period. Success of the Phu My Hung Urban Area and the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone has become the most typical examples of those investments.
Taiwan and Vietnam have opened their representative offices for 24 years. The two countries’ peoples and governments have enjoyed a closer and closer relationship and cooperation in commerce, education and tourism, leading to annual growth and specific achievements. Around 4,000 Vietnamese students are studying at different levels in Taiwan. As for marriages among Taiwanese – Vietnamese partners, the two countries have helped to form relationships for 110,000 families, who are supposed to have close family ties.
