On June 26th, 2020, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam – Director of the Center for Vietnamese and Southeast Asian Studies, attended a farewell party for Dr. Baloghdi Tibor – Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City, to celebrate the end of his term.

The event was held by the Consulate General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City with the attendance from various partner organizations, institutions and Saigontourist Travel Service.

During his incumbency as Consul General, Dr. Baloghdi Tibor has made several practical contributions to the betterment of Hungary-Vietnam relations on a wide array of areas, such as tourism, trades, and education. Speaking at the event, Dr. Baloghdi Tibor, with a five-year tenure, expressed high praise for the potential for development in Vietnam and the dynamism of Ho Chi Minh City as well as expressing his personal expectations for human resource development via proliferation of Vietnamese students studying in Hungary.

Having first hand experience of the City’s success story against COVID-19, Dr. Baloghdi Tibor was well impressed with the disease prevention procedure, namely the solidarity, interconnection, and support exhibited by local administrations towards citizens. He had a high opinion of the City’s timely preparation and the Vietnamese people’s strong sense of cooperation and ingenuity, citing these as a great achievement towards socio-economic development in the future. In addition, the Consul General let it be known that his time living and working in Ho Chi Minh City was that of a useful experience. Concluding his reflection on his time as the Consul General of Hungary, Dr. Baloghdi Tibor stated he would continue his support for Vietnam’s economic reform strategy and the nurturing of the Hungary-Vietnam friendship between citizens.

In response to the warm sentiment of Dr. Baloghdi Tibor and the entire nation of Hungary, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nhung – President of the Vietnam-Hungary Friendship Association, expressed his thoughts in “Hungary đã chắp cánh cho tôi trên con đường khoa học” (Hungary has enabled me on my path to science) published in a Hungary-Vietnam themed special issue. He also extended his gratitude to Dr. Baloghdi Tibor for his invaluable contributions as the Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City. Sharing Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nhung’s sentiments, Mr. Hoang Huu Loc – Chairman of the Members’ Council of Saigontourist Travel Service, showed his appreciation for the Consul General’s participation in promoting and bringing tourism between the two nations closer.

In addition to paying compliments and tribute to Dr. Baloghdi Tibor, honored guests were treated to a selection of musical performances by artists with previous living experience in Hungary.
