MEETING WITH MRS. ERINA MIYANISHI – JAPAN INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY
, 15/03/2017 10:03On March 03, Dr. Tran Dinh Lam welcomed Mrs. Erina Miyanishi, a researcher at the Institute for International Strategy, to CVSEAS in order to have some discussions about academic studies with the aim of strengthening the Vietnam – Japan relations.
During the meeting, the issues of TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) and economic integration were discussed with the hope that policy-makers would implement more effective measures to boost the economy. After President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from TPP, the opportunity for a supposedly thriving market among 11 countries after the agreement is signed has now been over. Although the path to reform in Vietnam has achieved some remarkable results thanks to open-door policies, the country needs to have more preparations for the pressure of change by diversifying its range of products, building brand names and improving the quality of products in order to export them to other countries. These are prerequisites for the survival of Vietnamese businesses.
Studies on real-life issues conducted by the Institute for International Strategy will create opportunities to approach other new research problems, which will bring benefits to education and training. Furthermore, that will help policy-makers readjust to international competitiveness so as to minimize risks during the development process.
When President Donald Trump spread his slogan “Make America Great Again”, it fueled a strong belief nationwide, which should be considered as a practical lesson for the path to Vietnam’s economic reform, showing that it is essential to make changes and build up trust among people so that everyone will contribute to the joint economic development of their country. Once opening its door to the world, Vietnam needs to learn from robust economies with Japan being a typical example. Japan, a prosperous country with its experience in manufacturing and corporate culture which is widely recognized through its commitment to quality and long-term relationships, is an ideal des
tination for Vietnamese researchers who hope to bolster the Vietnam’s economy and make it more dynamic.
